Yard Maintenance Tips and Ideas
Yard Maintenance for Home Security
Achieving complete home security requires that homeowners take a look at the big picture. How does the family act and look in public? How does the home look, inside and out? Indeed, the things that make thieves more or less likely to choose your house over another often related to appearance and ease of access. Creating an illusion of security is often a big part of actually effecting security. With that in mind, keeping your yard well maintained and free of objects that make a thief’s job easier are great steps towards securing the home.
Trees
The same trees that provide shade and natural beauty may be making your home an easier target for especially adventurous thieves. Large trees can be natural ladders that give access to windows on the upper floors of your home, which are more likely to be left unlocked or open. Look for sturdy branches that could provide direct access to windows or the roof and trim them back—you do not have to remove the entire branch to make it an ineffective access point, just shear it off so that the sturdy part of the branch is not jumping distance to the house.
Bushes and Hedges
While hedgerows may be attractive for keeping out noise, stray animals, and rambunctious neighborhood children, a tall hedgerow may actually provide cover for thieves and give them more time to search out entry points or force open a door. Be especially mindful of large bushes near a basement access stairway or directly in front of side doors as these already well-covered entrances will be less visible from the street and more inviting to thieves.
General Lawn Maintenance
Thieves like to “case” neighborhoods for homes that look unoccupied or otherwise neglected. An unkempt lawn can signal that you are away and make the home more of a target. If you will be away for more than a couple weeks, make arrangements with a landscaping company, a nearby family member, or a neighbor you trust to cut the grass.
Cars, Ladders, Etc.
In the same way that tree branches can serve as makeshift ladders, cars might provide the necessary boost to the roof or an upper floor window. Do not leave large vehicles such as SUVs, vans, or trucks close to the house while you are away. Sturdy picnic tables and chairs should be placed far enough away from the house that they could not easily be moved into position for a roof ascent.
If you have been doing yardwork or construction, make sure to move ladders inside at night or while you are away. Also be mindful of any large trashcans or piles of debris that might provide a step up for burglars.
Clever Landscape Ideas
Surround flower beds under windows with noisy gravel that will make silent entrances impossible.
Put thorny vines on attached walls that might provide steps to the roof.
Plant a thorny bush such as Hawthorne around the perimeter of the house to make access to windows a painful option.

Who should I use for my 3 references?
I am applying for a summer job with my local school division. I need to supply 3 references. I'm 16 and have been working at my local Mc Donald's for 2 years. I was thinking that I could use 2 references there from managers?
And for my 3rd reference I'm kinda lost. Should I use a teacher, aunty or uncle?
I'm wondering what 3 types of people I should use as my references.

What are tenant yard maintenance responsibilities in the State of Florida?
My wife and I rent a house in Florida. I cut the grass, edge and blow the debris every Saturday. I received a text message from the owners daughter stating there is more to maintaining the yard than the grass so they would be hiring a lawn service and I would be billed an additional $65 a month. This is not in the lease and after surveying my neighbors they say the yard looks great. Since moving in 2 months ago I have trimmed the bushes, fertilized, cleaned the beds and other repairs. When I replied that I would not pay for lawn service she said then we will have to "start the process." What do I do?

What legally does yard maintenance have to do with insurance?
I live way out in the country on 11 acres. Front yard, back yard. Have had American Family homeowner's insurance for 5 years. Suddenly they are going to cancel my insurance because my yard needs "maintenance" (higher than usual grass in spots).
What would maintaining yard maintenance (high grass) have to do with homeowner's insurance? I don't see where it would be a danger to anyone.

Dominate Boxer/Pitbull mix being neutered?
I am so excited; I adopted my now 10 month old boxer/pitbull mix in March and am finally getting him neutered Friday. He had Demodectic mange and was unable to be neutered until now (the animal shelter said he was neutered and my husband even asked about his danglies, oh well).
He is a great dog but he is a dominant dog, he is not submissive to other dogs or strangers. He is great for our family as we do not feel the need to socialize at the dog park or make friends with everyone with a dog. He only gets along with a small amount of dogs and could care less about meeting or playing with them. Very strange puppy as he cannot stand overly submissive dogs or dogs that try to dominate him, he prefers a happy medium. Anyway, am I wrong for keeping him away from dogs that might trigger him or is it the wise thing to do? He has not bitten another dog but the warning signs are there and it is my job to protect him as we do not allow him to dominate our household.
Like I said he is an obedient and well rounded house dog but I have seen triggers and would rather avoid them as they will not affect our home or lifestyle. For instance we have yard maintenance men in our backyard once a week and he could care less but when it comes to the pool maintenance guy he goes crazy and is in a state of fear aggression (which is the scariest to me). I think it is the man?s voice because the only other time he has gone that crazy was when Tom Green was talking on the TV and the pool guy does have a similar voice.
Basically what should we expect to benefit from neutering our dominant dog? Did you notice any changes? Were dominant traits lessened? Or is dominance not necessarily linked to hormones?
I feel I should clarify his trigger with other dogs. It is and has only been an issue with certain unleashed dogs in my neibhorhood. As long as the dogs do not run at him full force and place their head over his he is fine. The dogs are usually in groups of two or more and I started carrying a water bottle and umbrella to get them away. Otherwise on our walks he totally ignores other dogs and when we do meet and greet he either wants to play or he looks to me to keep walking. It is only an issue with unleashed dogs and yes socialization is important but I should not have it forced on me by careless owners who do not supervise or leash their dogs.
I am going to sign up for obedience training after he is neutered. Most places were not comfortable with me bringing an uneutered male with his health record. I am 100% comfortable with organized socialization and I know it is important. Sorry for the miscommunication, figured everyone could read my mind.
Holy cow, I made my dog sound like a monster. I have an eight year old son and have people over for barbeques with no problems. I even had my 70 year old grandparents stay for a week and did not have to banish my dog to the bedroom like most owners I have met do. Our dog is socialized just not with our pool guy, Tom Green or unleashed dogs.
Our dog does not have an attack mode, it is more of a get off me dude cause you are not smelling my butt. We walk to the pond and feed ducks every day and he doesn't even jump or tug to get at the ducks. He is just a manly dominate dog that would rather keep walking or hang out with his family than meet the delivery guy or sniff butts with the local dogs.
Okay, I see where I went wrong. He does not run up to people or other dogs and insert his dominence he only displays dominence when rudely approached. When meeting new dogs I have him sit and everything but when the dogs are unleashed it is a completely different platform.
I think part of it is that while on walks my son is with us and we get bombarded by dogs that usually bark and run up to my dog so he feels his role is to protect. I step in front of my dog and yell and spray them with water. I just wish that he would not care and just be a goofy friendly dog but unfortunetly he has a dominant/protective side that triggers under those circumstances.
Am I making any sense? Its late and I am thinking way too much.
Thanks Mariah, I see where you are coming from and will definitely take your advice. Its a work in progress and now I think I will track down the unleashed dog owners and ask if we can have an organized meeting so they can meet under more nuetral ground and work from there.

Can a landlord keep your security deposit when we have yard people, but grass wont grow in certain areas?
We are responsible for yard maintenance, and have landscapers, but the grass has stopped growing in one part of the yard, there were issues when we moved in over by there, but now it has spread a bit more. We have maintained the yard and have had yard people come every 2 weeks.

Why can't he just wash the DISHES?!?!?
My husband and I lived with my mother for a year to get on our feet. She had a dishwasher so it was simple.. put the dishes in there when you're done. We have been living in our new house for a little over a year. When we moved in, we made a deal. If I cooked he would wash dishes and if he cooked, I would wash dishes. 100% of the time I cook and 15% of the time he washes dishes. We both go to school, he works and I take care of the kids, bills, yard maintenance, kid's homework, his homework, my homework, etc. Why in the world can he not keep his end of the deal? We get into knock down drag outs about it. I think I feel more like he is disappointing me than anything. That's all I have asked him to do, so I just have to know why the hell he can't wash the eff in dishes.
ok i dont think one of you doesn't that what i do is a job and even if there is no paycheck you must understand school IS work. I have tried the no washing dishes, the take out, the no cooking till he washes them. I think that asking him to just wash 4 plates, 4 cups, and 4 forks is not that big of a deal. I wash dishes as I cook so its not like he has soooo many dishes to do.
Also, I know he works. He is a very hardworking man but, I believe a man should help out. There were times he didn't have a job and I had to support him and still do all this stuff. this isn't the 50's stuff has changed and men are obligated to help out around the house and with the kids. All I ask is for him to keep his end of the deal. Is that SO hard for a man to make his wife happy?

Sick and tired of the lying and bull crap.?
My husband lies to me all the time about everything, especially about money, buying horses, cows, loans, he says he lies because I nag him all the time and I am a control freak and he isn't going to ask permission to buy something he wants. I am a stay at home wife. I work hard at home. I do ALL the cleaning, grocery shopping, cooking, bill paying, laundry, and I mow for about 5 hours each week and do all the yard maintenance such as spraying chemicals and weed eating. I am not lazy by any means, I am very frugal with money and True to be a loving supportive wife. My husband has become very emotionally distant in the last 2 years, spends all his time at cattle sales and working out on the farm. We rarely spend time together anymore. He is a hard worker, a good provider, not abusive, no drinking, no gambling...he just lies about everything. This is a second marriage for both. Our children are grown and we have none together. We seem to be happy to people, He has a good job, we live in a beautiful home, have pets, friends and are respected members of the community. Not sure what I should do. Should I shut up and count my blessings or should I divorce before its to late and my life totally comes undone or is he cheating or is this a sickness that can be healed. I have ask to go to marriage counseling many times. I don't even know what the truth is anymore. He says he loves me and no one could love me the way he does. Please give me your thought and advice,
Thanks.

My lease is vague on rent house yard upkeep responsibility.?
I am renting a home and I have a signed lease. Three months into my lease the city came around and left a note on almost everyone's door in the neighborhood informing them that the tree limbs need to be cut xx ft above the road or be in violation of a city ordinance. If I ignored this notice the city would send their own contracted crew to cut the trees and bill the owner of the address at whatever rate the city wanted to bill.
My lease is vague and states that yard maintenance is my responsibility. I do mow, edge, trim bushes and trees, etc. This was more trimming than ordinary. I had to hire some help to cut back the tree from the road. I found someone that did it very cheap if I paid them cash - they did give me a receipt for the cash.
Am I responsible for paying (which I did) or should I submit my receipt to my landlord. I did not call him first because every other repair on the house he tells me to handle and submit receipt. I don't want to submit receipt unless I am sure he should pay because of some other issues we have had regarding repairs. In other words I want to be sure before I even bring the topic up.
Thank you all. I normally inform him of everything to the point he emailed me and said "just handle it". He obvious was tired of hearing from me. Me and a friend were doing the work when my friend got hurt very badly and ended up in the hospital on a Sunday. I called the City Monday am for more time and they would not give it me, just happens a crew was in the neighborhood and gave me a price I could not turn down. I could not take a chance on me having to pay and missing the deal. Yes, in the future I am letting the landlord handle all issues.
