Tree Trimming and Tree Care Service Business

Tree care and trimming can be done by a one-man business or a large corporate business. The larger business will be able to have the more expensive equipment which means they can be bigger trees with much greater speed as far as trimming is concerned. Vehicles with an armed power ladder or basket makes tree trimming much easier to do. A one-man shop will probably be doing the work by climbing up into the tree and using ropes and safety harnesses.

Tree care and disease analysis or prevention is an activity that can be done only with education and experience. A one-man shop could do this work as easily as a large corporate shop. Both businesses if they have the needed expertise could do this type of work equally well. The knowledge is the important ingredient here and not equipment or number of personnel.

Finding or starting a tree service company

A person that is interested in owning a tree service company could start one out of their home by prospecting in residential neighborhoods to get started in the business. Of course some equipment and knowledge would be a needed element to starting such a business. The tree trimming will take some skill and knowledge about how to accomplish the tasks in a safe manner. Some one who worked for a nursery or a tree farm could have learned the basics of tree trimming. There are also many information sources on the Internet and in books that could be purchased.

Tree diseases would be best learned in a formal setting and could be credentialed by earning a degree in the topic. There are universities and colleges that offer this type of study. Once a person has earned the degree, experience could be gained by working for a state or the federal government. The training and experience could also be gained by working for a private firm.

With the knowledge a person could start business from their home and add personnel as the customer base grow. Buying an existing company would require capital and some business acumen. Hiring a business broker to help with the search would speed up the process. This professional would also be a good source for getting questions answered about this type of business.

This is a niche market and the number of business that come up for sale in a given year, would be far less than many retail stores. A person thinking of getting into this business is faced with moving to buy a business or starting one up from the ground up. Also the solid business broker will have some idea of what amount of money is needed to buy such a business. When this is learned, the buyer must decide if they can come up with the price of buying a business. Starting one up may be the only way the to get into an owner position.

Coming up with the needed money

No matter whether you are starting the business or buying a business, you are going to need to have some cash to make it happen. You will need more money when buying an existing business than you will normally need to start one up from your home. When you buy a business, you are also buying the built in cash flow that comes with the business. The customer base has value and can make the business very likely to succeed in the future. This cash cushion will help the business get through the growing stages and provide the business with income to buy more equipment or hire more people.

The operative question is does the buyer have the funds to pull this off or are they going to need help in buying the business. The help can be found in several places. Relatives and friends could be a source. A bank loan may be able to be arranged by the buyer. There are companies on internet that advertise that they lend money to prospective business buyers. This source should at least be checked out if you need extra cash to pull off the deal. The most likely source for some of the money is the seller of the business. Many business sales are completed each year in this way. The current owner will take back paper as part of the purchase price. If this is the way the purchase is done, be prepared to pay a little more for the business.

An existing business in this field would need careful inspection of the equipment being purchased. What is the state of repair or can it be put in good repair at a reasonable price. This is where you may need expert advice. If there is a need for new equipment, the business must be evaluated on the worth of the existing customers and not the equipment. Long-term contracts have value if they can be assumed.

Conclusions

The tree service business is a very small part of all of the businesses that come up for sale each year. This niche business can be a very profitable business to start or buy. The service is needed by homeowners and businesses every year and can be in great demand if you live in an ice storm area of the country. These storms create a huge demand, as trees will need to be taken care of by someone. Diseases in trees are another matter that takes expert attention and analysis. If the tree is on the property of a private person, they may have no outs when it comes to solving the problem. Certain types of trees are more susceptible to life killing diseases. This should also be taken into consideration when choosing the trees to be planted for a new landscaping project. Good advice is the way to go.

The final suggestion for those interested in this business niche is get the experience by working some where for a time and also get the education so you can do it right. Like other niche companies there are few shortcuts that can be used to speed up the learning curve.

Bankruptcy and HOA assessments?
We completed a Ch. 7 bk over a year ago (but the Final Decree has not been issued). In our filing we checked the box "surrender" regarding our home, we cannot afford the combined mortgages (3) as I am unemployed. The 1st mortgage holder obtained a Relief From Stay but has done nothing since, no demand or NED has been filed. So we still hold title even though we moved out a year ago. Problem is our HOA has been hounding us for "violations" such as tree trimming and removal, the yard is dead, now they want a new roof put onto a shed. Our atty seems non-committal- she says that some of the violations came before the bk and we *may* be protected but any "new" violations we are liable for. For example we may have to pay someone to water and mow the lawn. Since the bank is not in any hurry to take the property back this could go on forever and the HOA will continue to "discover" more violations. I can understand the HOA's position if we were living in the house but we are being pressured to put money into a property that we cannot sell and will ultimately be foreclosed. Is there any precedence for this type of situation? Can the bk court force the bank to take responsibility for the property? At least they can get their money back. Answers to the first 2 responses below: 1) The HOA was listed in the bk, they never responded. My atty has written them advising that they are in violation of bk code, we haven't heard back. 2) We tried a short sale but the 1st mortgage holder would only allow $2000 for the 2nd and the 2nd refused. The buyer even increased their offer but neither would budge. The offer was for a bit more than the 1st's principle.

My girlfriend was charged with assault after her ex attacked her at her house?
My girlfriend was at her house last night with her son when her ex husband showed up to pick up here son for the night. He told her that he has told her son that it is ok that he starts calling his new girlfriend mom. She reposnded back that she does not approve of it because she is her mom and no one else is. He got angry and rose his voice and said "You know I should set your straight sometimes for the things that you do!". His new girlfriend was standing right there and started to yell at my girlfriend. She asked them to leave because she didnt want any issues. They continued to yell and try and push their way into the house. She attempted to close the door but they pushed in and broke the screen door and pushed my girlfriend, she then pushed back. They ended up calling the police and told them that my girlfriend had attacked them by punching and ripping his shirt. He works in tree trimming and rippes his shirts everyday doing that. The cops believed what they said because she had no one that witnessed it. They had someone else drive over and take their son before the police showed up and they had him tell the police their story about her attacking them. She was charged with a class B misdemeanor for assault. She has no previous record of anything. He has a past of violence but sadly not recorded. What can she do? This is in the state of Utah by the way.

Tree Trimming who picks up the bill?
__________________________________History______________________________________ I will try to make this problem as clear as possible. There are three major people in this case, a landlord with his property, a general contractor, and me on my property. Landlord and me are neighbors with each other and the fence dividing our lawn is not in the best condition. Our own fence is not in the greatest shape either. One day the landlord came over to our house and asked for us to fix the fence and he knows a general contractor who is a friend of his for the job. The contractor came and redid the fence for the whole lot and I decided to have him fix up my own fence as well. After three or so months, almost every single red wood picket on both our property cracks from thermal expansion and we had to ask the general contractor to fix it. I have repetitiously tried to get in contact with that general contractor and he's a no show while it took one call from my landlord to drag his rear end back to our lot to fix it. You would know the contractor would not be happy and I wont even go over the nerve he gave me as well as the plants on my property he killed while fixing the pickets. There was a bunch of paper works for approval before he came over and did the fence dealing with money and etc. __________________________________History______________________________________ A roofer (not important) tells me that my neighbors tree is going over on my side and he suggested I get it trimmed because the tree is hanging over my roof and decaying it from damping. I asked my neighbor if he can trim his tree so that it would not be reaching over my property. He bounced me an email telling me if I have anyone to trim the tree and 8 minutes later said the same general contractor can trim the tree while he works on repairing the fence. I had no objection to it and that general contractor without any estimation trimmed the tree first and billed me for $200 afterwards for trimming and taking care of the debris. My question is who is responsible for this bill and the amount of money? Thank you

Public works, tree trimming and falling.?
When a tree is to be cut down and is along side a public sidewalk, putting risk of falling on anyone who may be in the tree's path, doesn't there need to be a barrier or something to "stop" people so they know to go around that "zone"? The crew was there, but I walked right through the area they were working in. I saw them, but I thought they were clearing brush from someone's yard, it was on my way back that I noticed the big tree coming down. Road crews have to put pylons down (more so to protect them) but shouldn't they have a warning? What's funny is that they do put barriers around trees to protect them when work is being done around them. As much as I love nature and hate to see tree's be destroyed, I think a person's life is more important (and that's coming from someone who has no respect for the human race).

Free Wood Chips from Tree Trimmer?
I need to put down mulch (or equivilent) to help control our weeds and my parents suggested that what they did in Pittsburgh, PA (I live in North GA, by the way) is call the Electric Company or Tree Trimmers and they'll deliver free dump truck loads of wood chips. Has anyone else done this? Do they offer this service? I'd think they'd sell it to a mulching company.

tree trimming and neighbor etiquette?
While we were on vacation, our neighbors took it upon themselves to trim our tree right on the lot line. They did a terrible job of it. They did admit to cutting the tree because they felt it was shading their lilac bushes too much. The problem I have is they never said anything to us, they just went all "Jack the Ripper" on it. I had an arborist come out today to take a look at that tree and several others in our yard. As soon as the neighbor saw him she shot out of her house and was up in his face telling him exactly what she expected him to do about our tree. I told her that she and her husband need to leave the tree alone and to talk to us if they have an issue. She of course got all defensive and unpleasant. Am I so wrong to expect a neighbor to use courtesy and common sense? Sure, they have the right to cut the tree right up the lot line, but they could at least talk to us first. And, our tree was not a nuisance and was not creating much shade at all. The tree is a mature Japanese Maple, 20 years old and about 20 feet tall. Now it looks completely bald on one side :(

Help! On making an offer in a buyer's market!!?
The house is 108K while the home prices is similar if remodeled. The rest of the houses cost low 90K if not remodeled. I know the seller (which is a house flipper)paid 70K and flipped the house we are currently looking at. The house is still being remodeled and can be added on afew more things. The things we want is.. Trees trimmed back off the roof. Automatic Garage opener Wood Backyard Fence Buyers costs and closing costs Possibly a new HVAC (which is more than 20 years old looking) What should be in our offer? I'm worried that im asking for too much because of the HVAC. The seller might reject it, because of that. Should I ask for everything and ask for the full amount? P.S The housing market in our area is stable for keeping the value(military town), but very slow to sell. This house also hasn't been listed yet too. I'm on VA loan, so we only get enough for the loan by the appraisal amount.

Are you asked to clean a relatives house if you are visiting them?
My brother and his wife expect that or either have their guests do gardening or tree trimming for their stay with them along with buying groceries, cooking meals and taking them out to dinner. I've cleaned their house before, dusting and vacuuming and cleaning the showers. I was told to buy groceries for my stay and was also told that I could also either cook them a meal or take them out to dinner or get take out. Also I have paid for their gas when they show me the sights. Normally, I take people out to dinner if I stay with a friend as my treat. I have paid for a friends gas before because I realize all the running around a person does to sight see can add up. I only see them every 3 or 4 years or so. I stay a maximum of 4 days. A long weekend. If I do all that they want it is actually cheaper for me to stay in a Motel 6 or something along those lines. I bring a gift too, wine or a basket of goodies and have for friends also since it is a common courtesy. I don't expect guests that visit me to do that though since I am just happy that they want to visit and spend time with me and my family. If they chose to that is fine. If they volunteer to clean or offer to help that is fine too but I don't expect it nor would I. I've turned down their offers of help, because that is just me.
