Landscaping Projects Tips and Ideas
How To Create A Budget for Your Landscaping Projects
Any landscape project requires planning which including setting a budget to ensure that you do not spend money you have not got! Creating your landscape budget will help you figure out how much you can spend on building your landscape, and it will help you make an investment in your home that can hopefully add value to your property and yield a great returns.
When you are setting your budget, it is important to remember that your costs do not end with the initial costs of building the landscape. You need to take account of the cost of maintenance, replacing materials and any other related and recurring costs that are a part of the landscape experience. Whilst the extent of your budgeting will vary you need to set a budget whether all you have is a lawn or a much more elaborate design.
When you set your budget, you need to take into account everything. Whilst this can appear to be a distraction from getting on with the project and creating the beautiful landscape you have in mind, in the end it will help you out. You will not be surprised at how much everything costs if you have estimates on costs and if you have stuck to your reasonable budget.
It will help if you think of each portion of the landscape as an individual project and create a budget for each project. Then add it all up to see if you can afford the total. You can adjust what you want for the flowerbed if that will bring your total cost down, or choose to forego one of the statues you had planned to place if that will reduce your costs to within affordable limits
You need to figure out which plants you want, and whether or not they will look good in your landscape. You should try to come up with a variety of plants and then investigate their costs. Find out what types of fences are available and create a budget based on something that you like, but that does not cost a lot. Know what materials you will need to build a patio, deck, or arbor. Then figure out how much those materials are going cost, and whether you can get them any cheaper.
When creating your budget, keep in mind the landscape that you want. Are there special fixtures you desire? What elements can you live without? You need to create your vision of the landscape and then alter it according to your financial abilities to support your vision. Landscape design software can help in this, as you can easily adjust your plan and your ideas to fit with your budget.
You can figure out the approximate costs of certain aspects of your desired landscape by talking to professionals or by looking online to find what is needed for similar projects. If something is going to be too expensive, you will need to decide either get rid of it altogether, or adjust a few other elements to compensate for the increased price.
Plants are likely to be the main elements of most landscapes. When choosing plants, you need to consider size and growth rate. Many people choose cheap, fast growing plants and do not take into account future maintenance costs. Fast growing plants typically cost more in maintenance because they get bigger faster. They require more pruning, and if you are not careful they can quickly make your landscape look overgrown. Slower growing plants may force you to adjust your initial views of spending, but will save you money over the long run.
Part of your budget should include future maintenance costs, and you should make sure you get estimates on those, for a variety of possible plants, when planning your landscape budget.
Another decision you have to make is how much of the work you are going to do yourself. There are many landscape projects that can be done without professionals, and still look very attractive. If you are worried about pouring concrete for walkways, construct your walkways out of flat rocks. Part of creating your landscape budget is factoring in the cost of labor. If you do it, then it certainly adds to the feasibility of doing more for less.
Once you have created your budget, keeping everything in mind, and making a detailed list of how much you want to spend for each individual project, you can then begin working on the projects. Try to save as much money as you can, making it a goal to come in at or below budget. If something looks to be costing more than you budgeted for that project, you need to scale back or adjust another project. Creating a budget does no good if you do not stick to it, and it can come back to haunt you later if you disregard the budget you made.

Math homwork question!!?
2.You are planning to spend no less than $6,000 and no more than $10,000 on your landscaping project.
a)Suppose you want to cover the backyard with decorative rock and plant some trees as the first phase of the project. You need 30 tons of rock to cover the area. If each ton cost $60 and each tree is $84, what is the maximum number of trees you can buy with a budget for rock and trees of $2,500? Write an inequality that illustrates the problem and solve. can anyone offer any advise on bushes or shrubs, tree?
these would be for a front yard landscaping project and would receive full sun all day. I have tried box-woods and had 2 die last summer, they will act as a border but cannot be to tall in height, or get to large around...I am looking for something small, decorative and hearty. Also any advise what kind of tree to use in the front yard that will be placed in front of a picture window..to give an idea of climate and temp i live in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio, nasty winters, and varying summers, can be hot as 90 or chilly as 60/50 in july and august.

Let neighbor onto your yard for landscaping?
We have a neighbor who does not take care of his yard. For example, he still has not raked leaves yet from last fall, they are still laying there, and we look at them every day. We did a landscaping project last summer, and he went crazy over us being over his property line six inches, so we called our landscaper and had it redone so we are not on his property at all. He even called the city to come out and measure where the property line was. Also, we had it landscaped that way onto his property because his soil was draining into our yard, so it fixed the problem of run- off, we just didn't put the rocks onto his yard just because.
Well, he may be doing a large landscaping project this summer, and to accomplish it, he will need to have his landscaper go onto our property, and probably tear up a fair amount of grass. I do not trust him to take care of our yard, because he does not take care of his...
This is also the same guy who was mowing his lawn and mooned us one day every time he was facing our house a couple of summers ago. We called the police, but all they did, I think, was talk to him...
So....would you let his landscaper onto your property to do his landscaping?
I just don't know what to do...
Thanks for all replies.

When do you discuss budget with potential landscape designers?
We are starting a major landscaping project for our home. We plan in interview at least 3 candidates. Need some advice on when to reveal our budget to the candidates. They need enough information to focus the discussion on our needs, but I fear that revealing too much might encourage them to start pushing more on us than we desire.
Any advice?

What are the best plants for a picture window?
My house has a large picture window, with 2 smaller ones on each side. I want to know what trees, plants, shrubs, or privacy trees can be used to put in front of these to help cut out the western glare of the sun, and to add privacy. My yard is smaller, and would like something that does not get any taller then 20 feet and 5 feet wide. I like green, white, red, but no blues, purples, or yellows. My zone is 5. I am not looking for a landscaping project, Just something to put in front of the windows..

Does Full Coverage Insurance cover engine hydrolock?
Ok, so I was down by the local river getting rocks for a landscaping project. There was a little path across a creek which I crossed with no problems. On the way back, however, I crossed in a different place which was (my mistake) a bit deeper. Water splashed over my hood and through my window dousing me with water. My vehicle (stock 2000 Nissan Xterra) kept going after this as I neared the other side of the creek. However, before I was able to fully get out of the 'deep' section (not quite to the bottom of my doors, but above my tail pipe) my car stalled. There was a bit of a current pressing my car and I could feel it slipping a little bit, but it did not by any means start floating down stream. I panicked a little bit at this point and attempted to restart my car, which was turning over but not starting. I know now that this was a mistake but at the time I was kind of freaking out. After a couple minutes of flustered effort to restart and move my vehicle, I was lucky enough to have a couple guys come to my aid with ATVs who pulled my car free of the creek.
Now the Air Intake for this Xterra seemed to be a closed manifold (i dont know much about cars) but I did open it to check the filter which was wet. I did not see a puddle so I assumed that it was not at risk for pulling air into the engine at this point. I cranked the engine and it started right up! I was pretty glad. There was no noticeable noise coming from the engine and it seemed to be running fine. I drove it straight home and parked it where I dismantled the air intake to let it dry. I checked the oil which was a very health clear brown (not milky, indicative of water contamination).
I let the car sit with the windows open and air filter off for 2 days to let it 'dry' out.
After that time, I took it for a test drive which at first showed no symptoms of water damage. The oil still looked good, my coolant, brake and steering fluid were all appropriate, and the engine made no noise or anything indicated that there was a problem at all. No vibrating or clicking, nothing. About 10 miles down the road is where the real evidence of the water damage reared it's ugly head. I feel a little explosion rock my engine compartment. A huge cloud of smoke is behind me as I am going about 45mph. My engine died with no warning prior to this, I lost my power steering and brakes. I managed to pull it off the road with some effort and come to a gradual stop. There is smoke pouring out of my hood. I pop the hood because I think it's on fire, but it quickly begins to stop smoking. There is oil EVERYWHERE, all over my engine compartment all over the ground splattered on everything. My morbid curiosity gets the better of me and after checking the oil (it was good) and a few minutes I try to start it again.
It starts but sounds like hell.
I get it towed to the auto shop who discovered a hole in the side of my engine where a bent rod came flying through taking a chunk of my block with it. Now keep in mind that my intake was all dry by this point (I don't know if that means jack crap) so the rod had to have bent while it was sucking up water (my speculation) down in the creek hole. The quote is $6,200.
Well I dont have that kind of money I am in college, and I didn't even pay that much for my truck (got a smoking deal on it in 2007 for $5,500 bucks, its in great shape) and it only blue books for like $7,200 now in 2010. So yea the adjuster comes out and says it's pretty much a total loss, but that they need to "investigate" it. I've been without a vehicle for a week now and my insurance company is trying to find some way to wriggle free of paying for this (I don't blame them) because I drove it after I stalled it.
My argument is that I didn't KNOW there was water damage at the time because it started right up after I got the tail pipe out of the water, and behaved perfectly (no noise, vibration or shaking, etc BTW Im not a mechanic and I hadnt even heard of hydrolock before this) until the rod came out of the block. The water damage happened while it was in the water (my theory) and the rod bent at that time, which I was unaware of until it came out the side of my block.
So anyways, there's my perspective and their speculations. Now to the question!
Do you think I should be covered? By the way I have full coverage and have been with the (to remain nameless) insurance company for 4 years with no incidents.
Ken K, I told them pretty much exactly what I wrote here. I wasn't 'mud bogging' or anything I just went through too deep of water in a vehicle that is capable and designed to go through less water.
Buster; I know you can tell if an engine was run out of oil. Does an engine that runs out of oil still run? My vehicle still runs. With a whole in the engine. Does that sound like it ran out of oil?
The mechanic explained to me that the piston bent because of water, and that it came out the side of the block because, well they do that.
The question is whether or not an insurance should cover the cost of the damage. It is not a question of what caused the damage. They are looking at length of time it took for my car to stall, be run again, and then have the hole appear.

Why was there a bamboo stalk in my maple tree's root ball?
I bought a maple tree as part of a landscaping project two years ago and had it planted in a root ball. It was of decent size at the time and now has a trunk diameter of almost five inches.
However, the tree died this past year. I wanted to know why, so I dug it up to investigate.
As I bent the tree over, I looked underneath to find what I thought was some sort of tap root. It was standing straight up in the ground and had been snapped at the top from its place directly beneath the stump. What I saw, however, was not a tap root at all - but instead I had found a 2.5 foot long piece of cleanly-cut bamboo!
I'm really confused. Is that at all normal?

It angers me when my dad hits my mom?
Ok, my dad drinks everyday, even when he has to work the next day, today we were working on a landscape project. The entire family except my brother since he was out with his gf. My dad starting to drink since 4pm and we finished a part of of yard around 8, so when he was pretty hammered he started swearing calling my mom names in front of me then he started to push her few times and then smacked her, i watched this all and couldn't decide whether to smoke my dad(been doing moxing/MMA/BJJ for quite some time, few years, know for a fact i can take my dad in a fight since one time we got into a fight) or to call him out. I let it slide and the rage started to build up, i've always had "beef" with my dad for some time.
Then he took a rake/shovel and started to threaten her, my mom ran away from him, and i couldn't take it so called him out, haven't hit him, though really wanted to put him on the ground,
My dad served the Polish military back in the old days when communism was alive, served the military like i said and saw many tragic things like best friends dead in the washroom or own soldiers shot cause failed a course? that is why i assume he drinks.
he is slowly progressing more aggressive through each day and I've been wondering is it proper to put him down when the next time a moment like this happens...help? I have a good family just about that he gets hammered regualry. I don't speak to him, only say hi and good night, about only convo we have.
