Grass Cutting Tips and Ideas

Grass Cutting Green Options

The Landscaping industry in general is a wonderful business. They create beautiful landscapes, install tress, shrubs, plants and flowers. This enhances our environment and beautifies our homes. There are a few things about the industry that is negating all the positive work they do.

Grass cutting is a big part of the business. Everyday, 5 days a week, they drive from home to home, get on their gas guzzling mowers, start up their gas powered line trimmers and blowers. They probably spend no more than 30 minutes on average at a home. Then they are back in their vehicles and on to the next house. This is an extreme amount of gas usage from the machines and the vehicles and an extreme amount of ozone destroying pollution.

We can reduce the amount of pollution going into our atmosphere if we make the time to cut our own grass, in a non-polluting way. There are more and more rechargeable mowers and trimmers coming onto the market. Most of these rechargeable mowers will cut about 1/3 of an acre on one charge. This will accommodate many residential lawns. This however still takes energy. There is one option that takes nothing more than human energy...a rotary mower.
These mowers have come a long way in recent years. They used to be heavy, awkward and required sharpening often. The rotary mowers of today are lightweight, ergonomically designed, and the blades require little sharpening. These mowers are easy to use, less expensive than traditional gas powered mowers and lawn cutting services.

Rotary mower pricing starts around $90.00 US dollars and can go as high as $300 US dollars. On the better models bagging attachments are available. The Brill Rotary Mower is the best I've come across. The blades only require sharpening once every ten years or so. A bagging option is available for about $50.00 US dollars. They are lightweight and have a smooth easy cutting action, even through thick turf.

The way a rotary lawn mower cuts is also better for the turf. It cuts the turf with scissor like motion, leaving a clean cut. A gas powered mower blade spins at a high rate of speed pulling the grass up and slicing it. If the blade is not sharp, it tears the turf. You can tell if the blade is not sharp by the white edges at the top of the grass that looks like split ends.

Maybe we as a nation would be a little healthier too, if we cut our own grass. So many people live sedate lives now more than ever. By cutting our own lawns with environmentally friendly equipment we are not only improving our planets health, but improving our own as well.

Could this be considered my workout for the day?
So I decided to skip the gym today and cut and weed eat the yard. I used a push mower, for 3 acres. I didn't rush or try to run with the mower, but I broke a pretty good sweat. Can that be considered my workout for the day? (by 11am I had the grass cut, weedeated, 3 loads of laundry done, and the dishes finished... I got up at 6:30am)

Come Industrial Gearboxes TLP-205-J?
I need a replacement gearbox as stated above. The is a due through put gear box with a 90 degree power take off. It is from a topper, a large grass cutting bed attached to the back of a tractor. I am currently really struggling to find any info or.... just anything really about this gearbox online. If anyone has any clue's, it would be a great help. I do have the option of repairing the old gearbox by having new gears cut, but this seams a very expensive option due to the complexity of the gears, when i am sure new gears or even a new box would cost the same price it not even cheaper. Any help would be great, thanks in advance!!

Help, what should I do about this lie?
Yesterday, for some reason my friend at school randomly asked me how sad I would be when my pony dies.. Of course, I admitted to her the truth about how upset I would be when he dies, that I'd be so upset that I'd probably cry for days and day and have severe depression problems all over again. But the problem is, the thought of him dying causes me as much pain, if not more than, the story of why I miss the person that I miss... the thought of my pony dying makes me cry or nearly cry. So this is when the lie comes into it. I managed to not cry but this is where the lie comes into it.. If I'd been alone I would have been so desperate to cry at that moment but I managed not to since I wasn't alone but I got really red eyes from wanting too.. She was like Are you alright at how red my eyes and I said Yeah (a lie I've told loads of times but that's not the concern) and then I said I've smelt a grass cutting smell and I think I've got hayfever, my dad does I think.. And that's the lie bit. I don't have hayfever and my dad doesn't either.. Fortunately there was a grass cutting smell.. Problem is, she has hayfever for real so in future she'll wonder why I'm not getting hayfever symptoms.. Is there anyway to make this lie alright?? By the way, I love my pony more like a boyfriend / partner / husband than a pony... Thanks.. xx @sweetie5050, he hasn't died yet thankfully..

My dad got his friend a job and not my husband.?
My dad's friend and my husband have been out of work . My dad heard about this guy who wanted a maintenance person . And my husband and my dad's friend would have been perfect for the job. So my dad tells the guy about his friend and not about my husband. Dad's friend got the job and makes 15 dollars an hour now. My husband is still umemployed, can't get umemployment which my dad knows and I am the only one working making 400 dollars every two weeks. My husband is a good person and never done anything to dad. He has worked hard in construction until the economy went under and has only found small jobs for the last 3 years. Why would my dad do this to us I understand that a dad may not like a son in law ( although I don't know why, he is great to them, my parents are in their 80's and my husband does everything he can to help them around the house, grass cutting, moving things, fixes the cable when it goes out, etc.). But my dad loves me, shouldn't he want my husband to have the job to help me and our children? We have been married for 17 years. My was making 1200.00 a week for 14 years of it. He is a good man and doesn't deserve to be treated badly . My husband is 45.

What kind of business/online business can an 18 year old start?
I'm currently 18 years old. I'm going to college in the fall and plan on earning two degrees: one in computers, and one in business management. Ever since I was young I wanted to start a business and become a millionaire. I was wondering what kind of small business I could start by myself? I really don't want to go to the bank and take out a loan, unless the business would be guaranteed success but there's no business that's like that. I learned that some online business are becoming successful for some individuals however, I have no idea what I could start. Personally, I wouldn't mind face to face interaction with people and maybe work hard for my money. When I was younger I always wanted to start a grass cutting business around my neighborhood but my father wouldn't let me. Now, since I'm 18 there's a lot more possibilities out there and I want to know more about them. I know that it'll be hard without a college education, but I just want to make a few bucks here and there if I can. If somehow I could make a few hundred to a thousand, that'd be awesome! Right now, I'm just looking for some ideas on what kind of business I could start and how I could do it. Additional information: I have a part-time job (two days a week), and I also cut my one relatives lawn and get paid for that. Thanks for all of your help and suggestions! Do you have to keep grass cut to a certain length?
I live in Suburbs. I prefer the look of the natural outdoors rather than some human generated disaster. If grass has to be kept to -- let's say under 8 inches, could I replace my grass with wildflowers that would naturally be there?

What is the name of the hand-held grass-cutting tool with a long handle and a right-angle cutting blade?
It's not a scythe or a sickle. It's shaped like an L. The blade is swung horizontal to the grass (or, in my case, dandelions). It's sharp on both sides. You can cut weeds or in some cases tall grass with it - it's not for cutting lawns, it's basically a hand-held manual weed whacker. Anybody know? Thanks for the first answer - but I couldn't find that name anywhere. Any other names?

Saving up for a car, need more money?
In the beginning of this summer, I got a job at Ritas and I am making minimum wage. I also babysit and right now I am keeping every penny I get. I currently have $360 (but that is because I used to put 75% of my paychecks into the bank, I just started keeping every penny I get), so I am mainly looking for a car under $5,000. I really like the chrysler sebring, and there are usually a couple on ebay under my budget. But anyways my main question is: what are some other things I can do to make money? and I dont mean dog walking, snow shoveling, grass cutting, or things like that. I mean a little more high paying things I could do. Oh also, Ritas is a summer job since its only open in the summer. But I play volleyball and basketball for my highschool so I cant have a job in the winter or fall because there is absolutely no time. So are there any jobs you know about that only exist in the spring/summer? And one more thing- I heard that selling things on ebay is a good way to make money, so I think I'll try that. But looking around my room, I dont know what good things are to sell. So, What are some things that I could sell on ebay? Thanks for your help!!

Do you think my story is good, I'm trying to get it published...?
I have a teacher at school who is a fan of my writing and her fiance is a publisher, she says if I finish a story then she'll give it to him to publish. This story is about a gargoyle who falls in love with a girl but wants to become human because of the limitations of their relationship. I'm thinking about revealing at the end that she's really a siren or mermaid or something...and the main character goes to a high school that only gives night classes so I'm thinking of making it a monster high. Still not done yet soooooo, yea.Thoughts? No disses please. As God?s painted portrait of dawns last second finally faded my beastly face melted as it became flesh once again. My skin prickled and I breathed in the night air as my thick canines shrunk down and my face became human. I opened, my eyes and stared out at the world that was my home. The twinkling lights of the city and the mammoth structures that were the skyscrapers. I ruled the night and in turn it ruled me. My breathing, always shy, would hold place in my throat from the excitement. I shook my body out of it?s sleep and stood up from my crouch over the buildings edge. I flexed my arms and shook out my leathery black wings. Behind me on the balcony of the building I found my previously stashed school clothes. I held them up and studied my reflection in the glass. They were a white button down with the school crest, navy blue dress pants, matching jacket and a black tie. I stood up on the edge and folded the shirt and jacket over my arm. For the flying situation, I?d have to put on my shirt and jacket on later. I leaned forward and fell toward the lights. Slowly I tilted my wings upward and glided on the currents of the air. I chuckled as the air pushed its way into my mouth and against my face. I pushed back with my wings and gave my self speed. It wasn?t a hard place to get to but I treasured my time in the sky. I purposely roosted close every morning to make sure I?d have time before school as I was bad at judging time. I tilted my body diagonally and spiralled in a tornado like fashion over the school?s roof top. From this height I could see the school grounds. Past the rusting iron gates lay the rolling hill of luscious green grass. Cutting through the hills was a simple black road. The school was an old structure, the stone it was made of was a creamy white stone and from here I could see that the building was shaped like a giant rectangle with a cube sticking out from the top. That was the main entrance, which was probably my favorite part as it was held up by giant columns of marble like a Greek temple. The school owned a good measure of the land around it. It was nothing compared to the houses around it. The sound of an old church bell began to ring, snapping me out of my daydream. There was no actual bell just a recording of one the office played over the speakers. I quickly dropped down to the schools roof and pulled on my shirt and jacket it was always difficult so I had to tie down my wings with a belt before I could get my shirt on.. It took me a minute to struggle with the difficult beast that was my tie before I finally tied it around my neck. I waited a good few minutes then dropped off the roof landing in a crouch before I got up and walked toward the school doors. I pulled open the giant mahogany doors to find black and white marble floors. Inside there were also columns holding up the ceiling. Tracing the columns upward I found a beautiful chandelier hanging from the ceiling. I'm a little sick and not thinking straight my other work is waaaaay better. If you don't believe me I'll send you some my e-mail is Zakmmm@live.ca
